Getting There
Mentawai Fast
North Pagai Bungalows is situated in the southern Mentawai Islands. The best way to travel to North Pagai Bungalows is to take the Mentawai Fast Ferry from Padang. It departs every Friday at 07.00 am and arrives at Sikakap at approximately 12.30 pm. It returns every Friday departing Sikakap at 1pm and arrives back in Padang at 6pm.
Overnight Ferry
The overnight ferry departs from Padang on Wednesday and Saturday afternoon and arrives in Sikakap on Thursday and Sunday morning. It returns from Sikakap on Thursday and Sunday afternoon arriving back in Padang on Friday and Monday morning. If you are looking for a different duration trip than the 7 day turnaround offered by Mentawai Fast, take a step back in time and take the overnight ferry. Surfers have been taking this option since the early days of surfing in the Mentawais.
Sikakap to the Bungalows
On arrival in Sikakap, you will be greeted by a staff member of North Pagai Bungalows who will arrange transport via road to Silabu ( approximately 1 hour 45 minutes) and then a short boat ride to the Bungalows. The overland trip in the back of a local open air car provides spectacular views of the jungle and passes through villages that not many tourists get to see. Arriving in Silabu village, a 15 minute boat trip is the final leg of the trip to Silabu island and North Pagai Bungalows. This boat trip is one of the more unique and memorable parts of the journey as we navigate the estuary system enclosed by a full tropical canopy emerging into Silabu bay to the sights of local people fishing from dug out canoes.
